The overnight snow and freezing rain caused slick road conditions earlier Friday morning, but roads are improving.

The Iowa Department of Transportation reports all state roads in Greene, Guthrie and Dallas counties are back to seasonal driving conditions. There are still DOT plow trucks on the roads, and motorists are encouraged to not “Crowd the Plow” and give crews plenty of room to clear the roads of snow and ice.

Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says city crews have been out since 4am. They started clearing snow and ice from the downtown square. Since then, crews have been applying more sand to the intersections with stop and yield signs. The main streets have been plowed, but Morlan cautions that the side streets are still 100-percent covered with ice. He urges everyone to continue to use caution when driving on the roads.

Greene County Chief Deputy Nathaniel Chapman tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they responded to two weather-related incidents. A vehicle went off the road and into a ditch, due to a slush-covered road and there was a two-vehicle crash late last night on 237th Street and Kirkwood with no injuries reported.

The National Weather Service is anticipating the next round of snow and freezing rain to happen Saturday, where some areas could experience as much as five inches of snowfall. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team brings you the latest cancellation and postponement information, as well as road condition updates, throughout the winter season.
