New Perry City Council

The Perry City Council convened Tuesday evening in regular session.

The meeting was moved to Tuesday due to President’s Day, which closed all City offices in observance of the holiday. During open forum, Carolyn McNeill talked about the Perry Police Department Memorial, giving the Council an idea of what they have planned. She added, people can send donations to Detective Laura Deaton. During old business, the Council accepted a bid for the finishing work on the soccer complex project from No Lawn Left Behind, a contractor located in Perry. The bid was for $15,654.80, which was 34% lower than the engineer’s estimate. City Administrator Sven Peterson says the company gave the City a local discount, and in turn the Council was excited to award the project to someone in town.

In new business, the Council approved several resolutions, including: the submission of an application for the Assistance to Firefighters grant from Homeland Security in the amount of $23,667 for new vehicle extraction equipment; waiving building permit fees for phases one and two of the Dewey Field Complex renovation project; a notice and intent to dispose of abandoned property and outdated equipment; a form of contract for professional services for airport land acquisition for the runway extension; and tax abatement applications for construction completed in 2017.
