The Panorama girls’ basketball team will be playing in a State basketball team for the first time since 2013. The Panthers improved to 23-1 with a 36-33 Class 2A Region 6 victory in Woodward on Monday night over Des Moines Christian in a game heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The third ranked Panthers won for the 22nd straight time and handed the number 15 Lions their fifth loss against 20 wins. Panorama won all three meetings this season between the top two teams in the West Central Activities Conference.

DMC jumped out to a six point lead at 8-2 and the Lions led 10-8 after one quarter. Panorama led 18-16 at the half. The biggest lead for the Panthers was 28-22 early in the fourth quarter, but the Lions roared back to tied the game at 33-33. Panorama made a tie breaking basket with under three minutes to play in the game to lead 35-33. With the ball and more than two minutes to play the Panthers went to the delay forcing the Lions to foul and put them at the free throw line. Panorama missed their first front end of a on-and-one with 38.7 seconds remaining, but the Panthers had another chance at the line with 7.3 seconds left on the clock. Devyn Kemble made the first, then missed the second for a three point lead and time running out. The Lions missed a three-point shot at the final horn and the Panthers advanced to Coach Dan Druivenga’s fourth State tournament as Panorama’s head coach.

Kemble led her team with 11 points and Bailey Beckman added 10. Morgan Johnk had seven points and three blocked shots. The Panthers made 12 of 35 field goal attempts and seven of 10 foul shots. They made five three-pointers and turned the ball over 10 times.

Kaili Lawson of DMC had 16 points and Emma Veenstra added eight. The Lions were 14 of 41 from the field including zero for nine from three-point range. DMC was five of eight shooting free throws and they turned the ball over 13 times.
