For the seventh straight season, the Panorama Panthers girls basketball team (22-1 overall) is one step away from playing for a Class 2A state title. This year’s regional final game is in Dallas County as No. 3 ranked Panorama makes the trip to Woodward-Granger High School for Region 6 title game against No. 15 Des Moines Christian Lions (20-4 overall). Panorama swept DMC in their West Central Activities Conference series this winter, winning the latest meeting 50-41 January 9 in Urbandale.

Panorama’s road to the regional final was paved with a pair of convincing wins at home; The Panthers won their quarterfinal game versus Van Meter, 51-31, last Tuesday, and 56-37 in Friday’s semifinal contest against Martensdale St. Mary’s. Senior Devyn Kemble posted a double-double Friday against the Blue Devils, scoring 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Kemble spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio Friday night about how their previous postseason experience has helped them get back to the regional final. “A lot of us have experience for the past couple years being at the regional final game,” Kemble said, “We know how to handle ourselves now just because we’ve experienced it, we know what it feels like, and we’re ready to play the regional final and finally get to state. It’s been our dream forever, and we’re excited.”

Des Moines Christian has played spoiler to Panorama’s state tournament plans before, besting the Panthers in overtime, 32-31, during the regional final in 2015. The Lions have won 10 straight games dating back to the middle of January.
