New Perry City Council

The stewards for the completion of the Perry soccer complex project have been chosen, and it will cost the City a fraction of what they were expecting.

At the recent Perry City Council meeting, they reviewed bids for finishing touches on the project. They received four bids, the lowest being $15,654.80 from Perry contractor No Lawn Left Behind. Bolton & Menk said the bid was 34% lower than the engineer’s estimate, and over half the price of the next-lowest bidder. City Administrator Sven Peterson says the Council was overjoyed to not only get such a low price, but to award the project to a company operating out of Perry. As for why No Lawn Left Behind’s price was so much lower, Peterson says given their proximity in Perry, it wasn’t too much of a stretch.

“I think a lot of it just has to do with the fact that they’re a local contractor. They’re familiar with the project, I think they spent some time out there walking through and really studying what needs to be done. Also, you know, their mobilization costs are a lot lower than a lot of the other companies coming from Ames, or Webster City, Des Moines, things like that. So we’re really lucky to have a local contractor that was able to put in a very aggressive bid and get that project!”

Peterson adds, the seeding on the four fields at the soccer complex is finished and looks to finally be in good shape when spring rolls around. The remaining work is for areas in between the fields and other problem spots.
