Last month the Stuart All Saints Catholic Church’s Knights of Columbus Council hosted their annual free-throw contest. On Sunday, nine council champions returned for the district competition at the Jeff Pease Memorial Gymnasium at West Central Valley High School. Those nine, as well as council champions from the Greenfield-Massena and Panora areas competed for a spot in the regional competition.

In total there were just over 20 participants in nine divisions. Unlike the Council round’s 15 shots, each competitor was given 25 attempts at the line. A pair of 11-year-olds from Panora were the top shooters at the competition. Maddox Hammerstrom won the boys division in that age group with 19, while Tyme Boettcher rolled in 16 to win the girls division. Boettcher is the daughter of Panorama High School’s Girls Basketball Assistant Coach Kylee Boettcher.

The nine winners in qualifying divisions will advance to the regional competition in Audubon this Sunday. The winners received medals and certificates of achievement.
