Slick road conditions are making the morning commute a little tricky.

As temperatures continue to fall and rain turns to freezing precipitation, motorists are urged to take extra time traveling on the roads Monday morning. The Iowa Department of Transportation reports partially ice-covered roads in Greene County. All state roads in Dallas and Guthrie County are seasonal driving conditions. DOT plow trucks are applying liquid and other material to the roads this morning.

Greene County Secondary Roads Foreman Tanner Stauffer says county crews have been out since 5am applying sand and salt material to only the paved county roads. He anticipates the plows to remain out until noon, if the roads are only wet and the weather cooperates.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Greene, Guthrie and Dallas counties until noon Tuesday. They expect more freezing drizzle overnight and through Tuesday morning’s commute. Stauffer adds that county crews will be back out tomorrow applying more material to the roadways.

Motorists are encouraged to give plow crews plenty of room to work and give yourself extra time to make it to your destinations safely.
