Greene County ended the girls’ basketball and wrestling seasons on Saturday in the postseason.

Brock Wuebker, the lone Greene County wrestler at the Class 2A District Tournament in Harlan, finished third at 170 lbs. Only the first and second place finishers advance to this week’s State Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Wuebker lost to Tyler Maynes of Red Oak by a 10-2 major decision in the first round, the won 8-4 over Beau Barncastle of Creston/Orient-Macksburg in the consolation match. Maynes lost the title match, so Wuebker did not have a wrestle back opportunity. The lanky junior finished the season with a 21-9 record.

Coach Dean Lyons’ girls’ basketball team lost 66-42 to East Sac County in Sac City on Saturday night in a Class 3A Region 8 first round contest heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The score was tied 9-9 after one quarter with ESC leading 27-19 at intermission. Greene County was within five points early in the third quarter before the Raiders offense went into high gear. ESC is 10-11 and moves on while the Rams finish with a 5-16 record and eight straight losses to finish the season. Senior Laurin Lyons had 12 points for the Rams with 10 by sophomore Kassie Lamoureux.
