ADM Tigers

With the winter sports season officially ending Monday, student-athletes at Adel-Desoto-Minburn Community Schools are looking towards the spring sports season. Among the Tigers most successful programs is the girl’s soccer team under the direction of head coach Kelsey Gaffney. Gaffney is preparing for her fifth season as the Tiger girls soccer coach, compiling a 65-10 overall record since taking over the program during the 2013-14 season.

Gaffney and the ADM Tigers are coming off back-to-back trips to the state soccer tournament after just missing the event her first two seasons. She says she’s proud of how the team finished off last season, winning a game in the state tournament. “That’s the first time in school history that we’ve ever won a game, and it was overtime (at that),” Gaffney said, “Then we went to the semifinal game and played a very good team (Lewis Central) who ended up winning state.”

Gaffney believes last year’s success will fuel her team to produce an equal or better season this spring. Among the returning players for ADM will be senior Izzy LaFollette, who last month signed a letter of intent to play collegiate soccer at the University of Northern Iowa. LaFollette led ADM last season with 19 goals scored, assisting on eight others. ADM girls soccer has held multiple open gyms this winter but the first official practice starts on March 19.
