Greene County was a 67-53 high school boys’ basketball Class 2A District 15 winner over Panorama at Woodward on Monday night. The contest was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The victory was the first in the postseason in the six seasons playing as Greene County and the first since 2012 for any Rams’ boys’ basketball team. Coach Chris Nelson’s squad clinched a second straight winning season at 12-10, while the Panthers ended the season at 6-16.

The score was tied at 18-18 after one quarter. The Panthers led 27-25 with two minutes to play in the second quarter, then went seven minutes of playing time without any points. The Rams slowly pulled away and led 40-30 before four free throws by Panorama late in the third quarter drew the Panthers to within 40-34 at the end of the third quarter.

Greene County took over in the fourth quarter and built the lead to as many as 18 points before winning by 14. The Rams went 26 of 57 from the floor and 12 of 18 from the foul line. Greene County made just three of 17 shots from three point range and had 10 turnovers. Wade Adcock scored 21 points with 14 from Joe Towers, 13 by Trey Hinote, and 12 for Lance Hughes.

Panorama shot over 50% in the first half, but finished the game at 18 of 49 overall and eight of 21 from three-point range. The Panthers were seven of nine shooting free throws with 15 turnovers. Gracen Welberg had 18 points and Zac Rizutti added 12.

Next up for Greene County is a Thursday night 8 p.m. contest in Urbandale at the home of top seed Des Moines Christian on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. It’s a District 15 semifinal with Woodward Academy meeting Woodward-Granger at 6:30 p.m. and the Rams and Lions to follow.
