ACGC WrestlingCharger freshman wrestler Seth Danker has accomplished the goal set before each grappler at the beginning of the season: make it to “The Well”. On Saturday Danker punched his ticket to the IHSAA Class 1A State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines.

In the opening round, Danker defeated Logan-Magnolia’s Kaleb King by fall at 4:57. Danker then advanced to the championship round to face a familiar foe. Martensdale-St. Mary’s Cael Cassady defeated Danker at Sectionals in Ogden, and unfortunately the freshman defeated him again in the title round. Cassady won by fall at 1:24 and clinched the first state tournament spot. Even with the loss, Danker clinched the second spot after King defeated Missouri Valley’s Drew West in the 3rd place match. Danker therefore advanced by rule, as he had already defeated King head-to-head.

Danker will face a top-ten opponent in Sigourney-Keota’s Mason Dye. Dye, who enters the tournament with a 46-4 record, is the ninth ranked wrestler according to The Predicament, and tenth ranked grappler according to IAWrestle. You can hear more from Danker on tomorrow’s regular sports pages, as well as the Guthrie County PM Sports Page.
