The Raccoon Valley Radio stations and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com continue covering area wrestlers today at the State Wrestling Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The placing matches for third through eighth are now being wrestled and the RVR broadcast crew is covering nine individuals in this round.

Jack West of Winterset lost 5-0 in his consolation semifinal in Class 2A at 132 lbs. vs. Gabe Ruepke of Chariton. West has a rematch with Carson Hartnett of Webster City. The Huskies sophomore won 5-3 over the Lynx in Friday morning’s quarterfinal round.

Perry’s Zachary Thompson won 6-3 over Thomas Edwards of Johnston in the 3A consolation semifinals, but lost a 12-4 major decision to Kobey Pritchard of Southeast Polk to finish in fourth place. Thompson ends as Perry’s all-time wins leader and as a four-time place winner. In 2A, he was sixth, sixth, and third in the previous three years.

The two Dallas Center-Grimes 3A place winners were both winners in the first of two Saturday matches. At 160, Zane Mulder won 7-1 over Alex Ward of Dubuque Hempstead to get into the third place match. At 182, Zach Needham led 4-1 and held on for a 5-4 victory vs. Joey Mitchell of Ottumwa. Mulder finished in third with a fall in 2:47 over Logan Neills of Ankeny Centennial, while Needham was fourth after a 12-3 major decision loss to Anthony Sherry of Glenwood.

In 1A, Trevor Carey of Panorama at 182 lbs. won 9-4 vs. Manning Kuboushek of South Winnishiek in the consolation semifinals. Carey finished in fourth place after losing by major decision to Tucker Kroeze of Belmond-Klemme for third by a 20-12 major decision.

West won the fifth place match 5-1 at 132 in 2A over Carson Hartnett of Webster City. The sophomore from Winterset finishes the season at 42-5.

The other four Panorama qualifiers were all in seventh place matches and all came up on the short end. Danny Nordquist lost 7-4 at  126 lbs. to Teagan Lundquist of Southwest Valley to finish in eighth place. Wyatt Appleseth at 132 also finished in eighth after losing to Logan James of Underwood by a final of 9-4. Gunnar Grunsted at 170 lost 3-2 vs. Brandon Trees of North Butler-Clarksville and he finishes in eighth place. Dalton Holmes at 195 lost 1-0 to Brock Meyer of Sumner-Fredericksburg for the Panthers’ fourth eighth place finish.

Tonight, four area wrestlers will try to win State championships. That list includes Andrew Flora of ADM at 113 and Cody Fisher of Woodward-Granger at 195 in 2A. In 3A, the Perry duo of Kaleb Olejniczak at 126 and Zach Stewart at 132 lbs. in 3A are in the finals.
