The new head football coach of the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers has previous ties to central Iowa football from his days leading the Ogden Bulldogs. Garrison Carter took over the Bulldog football program in the 2012-13 school year and produced back-to-back winning campaigns in his two seasons with the school. His first season ended with a 6-5 overall record and a trip to the second round of the Class 1A playoffs. The following season is one of the best finishes Odgen’s had in recent memory, ending the year 10-2 and advancing to the state quarterfinals.

Carter spoke to Raccoon Valley Radio this week via phone about his previous coaching experience and his vision for the ADM football program going forward. He says he has fond memories of his days coaching at Ogden. “I think being able to have a winning season my first year and go to the second round of the playoffs was huge for the community and the school,” Carter said, “Then the second year when we were able to go 10-2, I think we beat four top 10 teams that year, and the big game was beating Council Bluffs St. Alberts in the playoffs and having their long run of seven straight UNI-Dome appearances (come to an end). That still might be the biggest win in my coaching career.”

His efforts with Ogden helped Carter land the head football coaching position at Washington the following spring, taking over a Demon program who finished as the Class 3A runner-up in 2013. Last season, Carter’s schemes and play calling helped Washington’s offense lead the state Iowa in multiple statistical categories. Listen to tomorrow’s Raccoon Valley Radio local sports page to hear about Carter’s uptempo style of offense he’s bringing with him to ADM.
