The Greene County girls’ basketball team had lost seven of its last eight games, while the Greene County boys had dropped its last three. That was before both teams were winners at home in Jefferson on Friday vs. Saydel (Des Moines).

Coach Dean Lyons’ Rams are feeling better after a two-game sweep of the Eagles to improve to 5-8 overall and 2-6 in the conference. The Rams won 55-49 on Friday night and the five wins are the most in a season for the Greene County girls since the 2014-15 season. Laurin Lyons had 18 points and Samantha Hardaway scored 16. Saydel fell to 3-11 and 0-8.

Coach Chris Nelson’s Greene County boys had lost three straight before beating Saydel 69-52. The Rams are 7-4 overall and 6-2 in HOIAC action. Saydel fell to 0-8 in the league and 2-12 overall. Zach Bobenhouse, a Saydel junior, led all scorers with 30 points. Wade Adcock and Trey Hinote each had 15 for the Rams with 14 by Joe Towers and 11 from Carter Morton. Lance Hughes scored eight points.
