After more than a month without competition, the Greene County High School wrestlers were back in action on Thursday night in Alleman. Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams went 2-1 in three dual meets to improve 7-9 on the season. Greene County started the night with a 42-39 victory over non-conference opponent West Central Valley. Then came a 39-36 loss to Roland-Story (Story City), before the night ended with a 48-30 victory over North Polk. The Rams are 2-4 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference dual meets.

Five Rams went 3-0 on the night. Senior Cayden Gerdes at 132 lbs. improved to 21-3 and now has 18 wins in a row after collecting a fall and two major decisions last night. Junior Brock Wuebker had a fall and two technical falls at 170 lbs., with junior Clint Dennhardt going 3-0 at 182 with two first period falls and a forfeit. Freshman Brady Stauffer had a forfeit, a fall, and a decision at 120 lbs., and sophomore Garrett Tasler had two falls and a forfeit at 113.

Greene County had such a long layoff partly because of the break for the holidays, but also because they were hit with a virus commonly known as mat herpes.

The Rams will go to Story City tomorrow for the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference tournament starting at 10 a.m.
