New Perry City Council

The Perry City Council convened Monday evening for their first regular session of 2018.

It was also the first meeting for newest City Council member Vicki Klein, and the first run by new Mayor John Andorf. To start the meeting off, City Administrator Sven Peterson gave updates on projects such as the 16th Street sewer and sally port projects, both of which are making good progress. In open forum, Police Chief Eric Vaughn was awarded the Perry Rotary Club’s Civil Servant of the Year, and Chamber of Commerce Board President Emily Leslie gave an update on some of the goings-on of the Chamber.

In old business, the Council approved submitting the renewal paperwork for the Federal Migratory Bird Depredation Permit, which will allow the City to continue hanging effigies to ward away turkey vultures. Next, they officially confirmed the termination of the contract with Spring Lake Construction, the original contractors for the soccer complex project. That was followed by the approval of a resolution to request quotes to finish the work. Finally, in new business, the Council approved the appointments of five people to the Perry Historic Preservation Commission.
