The Perry girls and boys varsity basketball teams both came up empty Friday night in their trip to Carlisle.

The Jayettes fell to the Wildcats by a score of 48-33, while the Bluejays lost 79-75. Sophomore Molly Lutmer once again led the way for the Jayettes, scoring 13 points in the first half and finishing with 20. In the third quarter they cut Carlisle’s lead to one-point, but fatigue finally caught up to Perry in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats were able to play a game of keep away for much of the fourth, forcing the Jayettes to foul and put them on the free throw line. Carlisle then pulled away for the 15-point victory, 48-33. The loss also comes with concern, as senior Isabel Saemisch injured her knee in the fourth quarter. Coach Chris Morrow said they will x-ray her knee this weekend, and he’s hopeful it’s just a sprain. Morrow was proud of the fight his team showed on the night, even in the losing effort.

The Bluejays were led once again by senior Rashon Ivory, who led all scorers in the game with 34 points. Senior Connor Nielsen also chipped in 17 points, including four three-pointers. However, Perry struggled to contain the Wildcats’ leading scorer Collin Lister, who finished with 30 points, and Carlisle enjoyed a big advantage in both turnover margin and offensive rebounds. The Bluejays made it close at the end of the third quarter, but Carlisle pulled away in the fourth. At one point their lead was up to 16 points with less than four minutes to play in the game. A furious rally to close the fourth narrowed the margin, but it proved to be too-little, too-late and Perry lost by the score of 79-75.

The losses drop the Jayettes to 2-13, and the Bluejays to 4-11 on the season. Both teams’ next game is Tuesday at Carroll. The doubleheader will be broadcast live on FM 99.7, AM 1310 KDLS, with the Perry Hy-Vee pregame show starting at 5:45 p.m.
