Last month Midwest Senior Services (MSS), a senior care consulting business, cut the ribbon on office space in the Stuart downtown Clock Tower. The business, which began as a home establishment in April of 2017, has grown to around 20 employees.

Owner Hayley Venard explains her motivation to start the business. “I was a nursing home administrator and we had a lot of new regulations come down from Medicare and I saw a need for administrators needing help implementing their new programs. I started out at home, just sending out a couple emails to local nursing homes, and that actually went off very well.”

MSS now facilitates program development and Medicare compliance with hospitals, nursing homes, Hospice, and other elderly care facilities. While many businesses are having trouble filling employees for jobs, Venard didn’t have a problem finding quality candidates. “We got quite a few applications actually, and every person that we have hired has been wonderful. They all have great work ethic and are dedicated. It’s great to work in a small town and have local people work here because they care more than maybe if I was in Des Moines. I think we found great resources here.”

Venard chose Stuart for the West Central Valley School District and family connections. The company has provided services for entities as far as Alaska and California. To hear more from Venard, listen to tomorrow’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
