Greene County Supervisors 1_15The Greene County Supervisors are meeting tomorrow with a law firm to discuss establishing a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) program.

Since MidAmerican Energy installed 42 wind turbines in the northeastern portion of the county, and they have plans to install another 85 turbines, the topic of TIF has surfaced frequently for the Supervisors. Board Chair John Muir says TIF can help spread the burden of different projects over the entire county in certain areas. He talks about how the Board feels about using TIF, especially for county infrastructure like roads and bridges.

“I don’t think the Board has a problem at all using those funds for those sorts of things. Those funds are also available for other projects we might deem worthy. I think that’s where our separation starts to happen. Is that project important enough utilize those funds? That’s where the question comes in.”

Greene County Development Corporation Executive Director Ken Paxton is excited for the opportunity for the Supervisors to possibly use TIF.

“It can be used for projects all over the county that need to be done and need to work on our infrastructure and other projects. This is an amorous influxion on cash, through these taxes, that helps us improve our county in a variety of ways.”

The Board noted at their regular meeting on Monday that following tomorrow’s meeting with Ahlers and Cooney, they want to make a decision whether or not to begin the process to establish TIF as soon as possible.
