Greene County School Board 1_17The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.

The Board approved the 2018-19 school calendar, following a public hearing on the topic. During reports, Board member Steve Karber said they are working to reschedule to two public meetings in Rippey and Scranton with OPN Architects on the possible bond referendum. No ballot language will be put together until all public meetings are finished.

The Board then approved a volunteer coaching contract for extra-curricular activities, a land appraisal from Peoples Company for the proposed location for the new high school and career academy west of American Athletic Incorporated on the southside of Highway 30 for $1,500 to $2,500, the first reading of a new board policy for the ongoing homeschool assistance program and the Board approved policy reviews to make the Board have the final decision on out-of-state field trip requests, as well as no longer administering spinal screenings. Additionally, Board members Steve Fisher, Sam Harding and Katherine Wilson will be on a committee to determine standards and the process of implementing several evaluations throughout the year of the superintendent instead of just on an annual basis.

Finally the Board approved a verbal offer of $165,000 to purchase the 2017 student construction house at 206 East Wilcox Way. One contingency is that the district would agree to pay $5,000 in closing costs. The offer is not finalized, pending further review of the agreement.
