Greene County Extension winterGreene County Extension will host their first ag coffee event of the year on Friday.

Extension Director Lori Mannel says cover crops will be the main focus. ISU Extension Field Agronomist Mark Johnson and area farmer Liz Garst will lead the discussion. Topics to be covered include: how to start cover crops, using different seed methods and species and addressing concerns with termination. Mannel talks about previous ag coffees and how those have helped to appeal to a wide range of audiences.

“We had diverse audiences, depending on the topic. So we’ve done some on drones, which we had some individuals come that haven’t normally come into the Extension office. ‘Securing Your Farm Property’ was very popular. It seemed to be elderly women, who maybe farm owners that are concerned about their security of farm site, when no one will possibly live there.”

The free event will take place at the Extension office Friday from 9:30 to 11am. No pre-registration is necessary and Home State Bank is sponsoring the event.
