One member of the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers wrestling team stood atop the podium Saturday at the school’s yearly tournament. The annual ADM Tiger Invite featured wrestlers from 11 schools across the state including Ames, Clark, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Dallas Center-Grimes, Iowa City Liberty, Nevada, Red Oak, Roland Story, Waukee, and West Central Valley. ADM placed sixth overall in the final team standings.

ADM junior Andrew Flora was the Tigers top wrestlers on the day, taking first place in the tournament’s 113-pound weight class. Flora had one contested match on the day, a semifinal match against Dallas Center-Grimes’s Ayden Kovaleski. Flora, who topped Kovaleski earlier this month by a 5-2 decision, won this time by pinfall in 3:06. His championship match was a win by injury forfeit against Nevada’s Kyle Dieter. ADM head wrestling coach Chris Hatchitt was pleased with Flora’s improvement. “(Flora’s) improved from the first and second time he’s wrestlers (Kovaleski), he ended up with a fall today,” Hatchitt said, “That’s what we want to see going into this time of the year and heading towards sectionals and districts is that aggressive, attack like mentality.”

Flora, the Predicament’s Class 2A No. 2 113 pounds, improved to 27-0 with his one tournament win. The ADM wrestling team resumes their season Thursday in a Raccoon River Conference triangular against Carroll and Bondurant-Farrar. First grapples are set for 5:30 p.m. at Carroll High School.
