law enforcement center

One last piece of the puzzle has fallen into place for the new Dallas County Law Enforcement Center, as the final bid package for construction was awarded.

At the recent Supervisors meeting, the Board held a public hearing to present the bids for the structural steel work. The bid package had to be rebid after there were no individual bids received in the original letting process. Sid Samuels, President of the Samuels Group – the project’s construction managers, said they received four bids for the package. The low bid belonged to Katelman Steel Fabrication, Inc, for $836,000. However, Samuels said they included several qualifications for their bid that would increase their price. Because of that, the Samuels Group deemed them unresponsive and recommended awarding the project to the next-lowest bid.

That bid belonged to U.S. Erectors, Inc, for $861,580. Their bid was just $80 more than the original estimate for the steel work, so Samuels felt it was still a very good price. The Supervisors approved awarding the bid to U.S. Erectors as the lowest responsive, responsible bidder. The total price for all construction packages awarded is currently $16,816,388, considerably under the original estimations. The project is currently ahead of schedule and under budget.
