Snow covered roadsWith some expected inclement weather coming our way this weekend, be ready for some travel challenges and your city’s snow ordinance.

Jefferson residents are reminded that the City’s snow ordinance goes into effect anytime there is at least one-half-inch of snow accumulation. Once the snow ordinance is in effect, parking is prohibited on all city streets and alleyways until the snow event is over and the streets have been cleared of snow from curb to curb. Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse says since the first snow event in mid-December, they haven’t had to issue as many snow ordinance violation tickets.

“Especially the last snow event that we had here over the last several days, we issued two snow emergency tickets during that event. Compared to the first couple of storms, we were up in the 20 to 30 ticket range for that storm. So it just goes to show that our thought process has changed and they are getting off the streets, and that’s enabling our street department to get the roads cleared and everything is working out great.”

Clouse adds that so far this winter, zero vehicles have been towed due to violating the City’s snow ordinance.

The National Weather Service is predicting rain and freezing rain overnight on Sunday, turning into snowfall through Monday morning.
