The last two seasons of Class 3A football have produced one win each season for the Greene County Rams. This is a re-district year and head football coach and activities director Mitch Moore is waiting to hear if the Rams will stay in 3A or drop to 2A. Fewer teams in both 4A and 3A, plus lower enrollment at Greene County HS than two years ago, the last time the classes were shuffled, point to going to the lower class, but as the late baseball legend Yogi Berra was quoted as saying, “It ain’t over ’til it’s over!”

Coach Moore told Raccoon Valley Radio, “I thought I would know by now whether we’re 2A or 3A. We don’t, and that’s okay. We’ll find out when we find out, hopefully sometime in mid-January. By mid-February, by State Wrestling, we’re supposed to find out who we play.”

The coach has been talking to some potential non-district opponents. “I do know this. We’ve been in some negotiation with Perry, and Carroll, and North Polk (Alleman). Those are teams we’d like to play non-district if they’re not in our district. Perry (Cowbell game) we’re going to play for sure. Carroll, I’d like to bring that rivalry back. I’d like to play them every year because of the proximity and because of the competition. I think it’s a team we need to strive to compete against in every sport.”

For classification purposes, Greene County and Paton-Churdan combine their grades 9-11 enrollment.
