With snow on the ground and more possibly on the way, the City of Perry reminds homeowners that there’s a snow removal ordinance for sidewalks.

Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn explains, “What that ordinance says is that you need to clear your sidewalks within 48 hours. The sidewalk in front of your house, so people walking by aren’t slipping and falling on a sidewalk that’s uncleared. Also, just as a reminder, if your sidewalks aren’t cleared or the snow gets too deep, the post office will not deliver your mail. So we want to make sure we clear a path for them and the people that are just walking by your residence, so that they are not slipping and falling.”

If your sidewalk isn’t cleared within 48 hours, Vaughn says the City will clear it off for you. However, they will assess a fee back on the homeowner based on how much snow was removed. Anyone with questions can contact Perry City Hall at 515-465-2481.
