ADM Tigers

A long losing streak ended in improbable fashion Tuesday night for the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers boys basketball team (3-9 overall). The Tigers brought an eight-game losing streak with them to Grimes for a nonconference rivalry game against the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs (7-6 overall) of the Little Hawkeye Conference. ADM played even with DCG for the first 24 minutes, and outscored the Mustangs, 15-8, in the final quarter for a 53-46 victory. The contest featured 12 lead changes and was tied eight other times.

Senior Rylan Heffernan led ADM in scoring with 16 points, converting nine of his 10 free throw attempts. Senior Zach Ferguson added nine points, while junior Koby Hardcastle added eight. Senior Cole Knoll had seven points, eight rebounds, and four steals in the victory. After the game, ADM head coach Aaron Mager credited his guys for continuing to work on improving their craft during the slump. “What people don’t get to see is how hard they work on Monday’s, Wednesday’s, Thursday’s, Sunday nights with weights, Wednesday’s after practice with weights, and they don’t complain and they stay together,” Mager said, “For that to be rewarded for them is blessed and fun.”

Tuesday marked the first time the ADM boys basketball team has defeated the Mustangs in the new gymnasium at Dallas Center-Grimes High School. The victory improves ADM to 3-9 overall. The Tigers resume Raccoon River Conference play Friday at home against the Ballard Bombers.
