For the first time in the six seasons the Rams have played as Greene County, the boys have swept the two-game Heart of Iowa Activities Conference basketball series from Nevada. The 63-55 win by the Rams on Tuesday night in the middle school gym was also the first time the Rams beat the Cubs in Jefferson since Jan. 24, 2012, which was a 63-58 victory when the Rams were Jefferson-Scranton. This is the first time since the 2009-10 campaign the Rams went two for two vs. the Cubs

. Coach Chris Nelson’s team is now 7-2 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action and 8-4 overall. The Cubs fell to 4-5 in the league and 5-8 overall. The action was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The win was the third straight in the series for the Rams dating back to last season. Trey Hinote scored 25 points on Tuesday night including five three-point baskets. He had a career best 28 in Nevada last month. Hinote was nine of 16 from the floor and two of three from the foul line. Wake Adcock and Lance Hughes each scored 10 points with six apiece from Joe Towers and Ben Bravard. Carter Morton had four points with two by Ben Wilkens. Greene Countyw as 24 of 47 from the field including five of 11 on three-pointers. The Rams made 10 of 15 foul shots and had 11 turnovers.

Nevada also turned the ball over 11 times. They were 18 of 52 from the floor and 13 of 23 shooting free throws. The Cubs went four of 18 from three-point range. They were led in scoring by 6′ 6″ senior Luke Merfeld with 17 points. Senior guard Trent Stahl added 11.
