Hunters across Iowa saw an overall increase of harvested deer in the past year. Hunters reported harvesting 105,544 deer in Iowa in 2017, which is more than 4,000 reported in 2016.

The majority of the deer were harvested during the shotgun seasons. The first shotgun season saw 26,546 deer taken, while the second added nearly 20,000 more. There were also nearly 20,000 harvested during bow season, not including crossbow season. Overall there were 57,522 antlerless and 47,992 antlered deer harvested this year. The antlerless collection increased by 6%, while the number of antlered deer harvested increased by 3%.
