acgcWoodward Academy looked to be heading in the wrong direction coming into Guthrie Center Tuesday night. The Knights came into last night’s WCAC contest at 1-3 on the season. The Chargers were coming in on a hot streak, winning three consecutive games. For both teams, the season scripts took a plot twist as the Knights cruised to a 75-53 victory over ACGC.

The Chargers had a difficult time against the Knights’ full court press and half court zone defense. The Knights came into the game leading the conference in steals per game with 13. After trailing by eight at the end of the first half, Noah Nelsen took a 5-0 run himself to get the lead down from twelve to seven. But Mike Barker’s 21 second half points were just too much for the Chargers. ACGC, who averages a conference leading 35 rebounds per game, came down with just 25.

Charger Head Coach Jake Mohling was overall disappointed with his team’s performance. “We’re not happy with the performance. It looked like last year. The pressure really, really bothered us. We put our heads down. Eyes weren’t up. We didn’t find the gaps. That’s not what we wanted to happen at all and I think there was a lot of flat footed, just watching. Woodward Academy wanted the ball.”

Quynton Younker was a bright spot for the Chargers, nailing three three- pointers in the loss. Both Charger squads will head to Earlham tomorrow for WCAC doubleheader action against the Cardinals.
