The Perry boys and girls basketball teams took on Norwalk Tuesday night, falling to the Warriors in both games of the doubleheader. The Jayettes lost 46-36, while the Bluejays were defeated 105-77.

The girls got off to a slow start, only scoring four points in the first quarter. They would pick it up in the second quarter, though they couldn’t quite contain the balanced scoring attack of Norwalk. Perry trailed at halftime 17-26. In the second half, Perry kept it close behind the scoring ability of sophomore Molly Lutmer, but in the end they couldn’t dig their way out of the hole and wound up losing 46-21. Lutmer led all scorers in the game with 21 points.

The boys team started fast thanks to the scoring talent of senior Connor Nielsen, but Norwalk turned things around quickly thanks to the passing of senior Luke Vaske and the finishing ability of senior Daniel Geistler. The Bluejays fell behind by as many as 25 points in the first half due to the offensive onslaught of the Warriors, but still ended the second quarter on an exciting note. Senior Rashon Ivory took the ball full-court in less than four seconds for a basket at the buzzer, with a free throw tacked on. Perry trailed 56-41 at halftime. Unfortunately that’s all the closer they would get as Norwalk’s hot shooting continued. Both teams played backups for the final 3 minutes of the game as the Warriors held a 30-point lead. The Bluejays would ultimately lose 105-77. Nielsen scored 23 points to lead Perry.

The losses drop the Jayettes record to 1-7 and the Bluejays record to 1-5. Both teams’ next game will be on Friday at Adel-DeSoto-Minburn. Listen to FM 99.7, AM 1310 KDLS, or FM 107.9 KKRF for full play-by-play coverage of the game, starting with pregame at 5:45 p.m.
