Jefferson Fire DepartmentThe Jefferson Fire Department responded to an electrical pole fire Monday morning.

Greene County Deputy Kirk Hammer reported that he and the Jefferson Fire Department were called to the incident just before 8am at 250th Street, west of K Avenue. Hammer said a property owner was burning brush in the ditches when an electrical transmission pole caught fire. Hammer noted that about one-third of the pole was burnt and Midland Power Cooperative was called out to assess the damage and make necessary repairs. No one was hurt in the incident.

Hammer reminds everyone that when doing a controlled burn to contact the law enforcement center’s non-emergency number at 386-2136 so they are aware and can respond if needed.

The National Weather Service has also issued a wind advisory for the Greene County area until 6pm today. Within the advisory, the National Weather Service indicates upwards of 50-miles-per-hour winds could be prevalent.
