Dallas Center Grimes defeated Perry 50-14 in non-conference basketball action Tuesday night from the Meadows. Perry showed improved half court defense in trying to slow down the game early and stay away from the DCG halfcourt zone trap. Perry trailed 10-2 after the first quarter before transition opportunities allowed DCG to open up a 24-4 halftime lead. The Jayettes came out strong early in the third quarter knocking the deficit down to 13 at one point following four straight points by Isabel Saemisch. However, 22 turnovers proved to be too much for the Jayettes to overcome in falling on the road. Jenna Borchers led the DCG attack with 15 points. Saemisch, Molly Lutmer and Grace Stewart all finished with 4 points.
“Patience is going to be a key for the team and the fans this year,” added Head Coach Chris Morrow. “We are playing a lot of younger players who just don’t have the experience quite yet. You can see the girls thinking out there instead of reacting. It will come with time as long as the girls keep working hard and keeping the right attitude. I know its a process but that’s what I enjoy is rebuilding and getting team improvement, it’s not about wins and losses right now.”
Perry will return to RRC action Friday night when they host Carlisle.
