IMG_1862The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.

Guthrie County Library Board Chair and Stuart Public Library Director Lisa Sherman presented a budget request for an additional $8,000 for county libraries for the 2019 fiscal year budget. The Board allocated just over $115,000 to county libraries last year. Sherman and the other community library directors highlighted Wi-Fi and technology usage as a substantial reason residents visit the libraries. Sherman explained how the Supervisors benefit the libraries and their patrons. “We’re glad that they are using the libraries and you guys (Supervisors) are the reason why people are staying in our communities.”

The Board then canvassed the recount election results from both Guthrie Center offices as well as Jamaica’s City Council race. The overall results did not change, however a few more votes were processed during the recount.

Sheriff Marty Arganbright also informed the Board that the jail was recently over capacity with eleven inmates. Arganbright moved two inmates to the Dallas County Jail to alleviate the overcrowding. The Board also approved a $150,000 advance to tax increment financing to cover final construction costs on box culvert projects and accepted a $5,000 settlement from the Iowa Insurance Division Settlement with Two Rivers Insurance.
