The Greene County boys’ basketball team did not have a field goal in the fourth quarter, and two free throws were enough as the Rams were 55-47 winners over Roland-Story (Story City) in Jefferson on Tuesday night in the middle school gym. The game was broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Coach Chris Nelson’s Rams went zero for seven from the floor and they had no points at all in the last period until Trey Hinote made a free throw with 46 seconds left on the clock. Wade Adcock added a free throw second later for the only Greene County points of the last quarter.

The drought didn’t cost the Rams the game largely because they had a 53-38 lead at the end of the third quarter and R-S made just three of 15 fourth quarter shots, all by junior Carter Greenfield, who scored 19 points after entering the game with a 6.2 points per game average.

The Rams were 20 of 52 from the floor and six of eight from the foul line. The Rams made nine of 23 three-point shots and were led by Hinote with 24 points, equaling his season high. He had scored just six points combined the previous two games. The junior was nine of 18 from the field and five of 10 on three-pointers. Senior Joe Towers had nine points on a trio of three-point baskets while senior Wade Adcock was held to a season low seven points. Junior Lance Hughes also scored seven, with senior Jordan Patterson and sophomore Carter Morton each adding four points.

Turnovers were a fourth quarter problem for the Rams with six, and they ended the game with 12. R-S had 17 turnovers. The Norsemen were seven of 20 on three-pointers, 16 of 47 overall, and six of 11 from the foul line.

The Rams are 3-1 overall and in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference while R-S fall to 2-4 and 1-3. Greene County next plays on Friday in Des Moines vs. North Polk (Alleman) at Wells Fargo Arena. It’s a girl/boy doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. with the girls first, followed by the boys. The action can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
