WCVThe West Central Valley School Board met in regular session Wednesday. The Board approved graduation for Saturday, May 19th at 11 am, as selected by the students. The Board also approved five students’ requests to graduate a semester early.

Athletic Director David Doely addressed the Board on two department concerns. Doely requested bids for concrete work on the south side of the football complex. At that particular spot there is a patch of grass with a hidden drain grate that could cause an accident. The Board approved a bid for $3,600 from a local outlet to cover the patch and grate with concrete. Doely is also concerned about the lack of qualified coaches to facilitate athletics, particularly at the middle school. Currently, West Central Valley’s athletic director is not allowed to simultaneously coach an athletic team, which is relatively unique for schools in the West Central Activities Conference. The Board will consider a proposal to allow Doely to coach the boys golf team, which would help solve the lack of coaching.

Finally, Technology Coordinator Amy Doud addressed the Board on district office software. Doud specifically presented on the differences between the Microsoft Office 365 suite and Google Apps. The district currently uses Office 365, as it is comparable to Google and easier to use as students and staff already have Outlook emails. Board Member Laura Weber also referenced one-one technology. Doud informed the Board that she could not justify that technology academically or fiscally.

The Board then moved into a closed session to review the recommended candidates for the new superintendent. The district hopes to select their new superintendent at the next Board meeting, one month from tomorrow.
