IMG_1445Veterans Day is this Saturday. However, several public buildings and offices will be closed tomorrow. The following Guthrie County public facilities will not be open on Friday: Guthrie County Courthouse, Stuart City Hall, Stuart Municipal Utilities, and Guthrie Center City Hall. Post offices throughout the county will also be closed tomorrow and the Mary J Barnett Memorial Library will be closed on Saturday.

Stuart, Panora, and Guthrie Center will all hold various programs and Veterans remembrance displays. Today from 3-7pm, Panora community members can visit the Veteran’s Freedom Wall display at Panorama High School. The public are encouraged to write messages to be added to the wall. Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School’s program is tomorrow at 10:30 am and Stuart Elementary’s is Monday, November 13th at 9 am. Both events are open the the public. The Stuart Public Library is also featuring a display throughout the weekend.

Over the weekend there will also be a couple luncheons for veterans and their families. The Redfield Legion Hall will hold its annual Veteran’s Day Dinner on Saturday from 5-7 pm. The meal consists of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and is $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages 12 and under. The Stuart Methodist Church and Boy Scout Pack 147 will also host their chili supper on Saturday, from 4:30-7 pm. All veterans and active service members eat free and a free-will offering will be collected. Proceeds from both events will go towards respective legion programs, veterans, and their families.
