Jesse Donavon Taggart of West Des Moines, who was charged with sexual abuse of a minor in Perry has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

According to court documents, the 22-year-old reached a plea agreement with the Dallas County Attorney’s Office. His sentence is a result of a guilty conviction for one count of lascivious acts with a child, a class C felony. He will also have to pay court costs, victim restitution, and a civil penalty, and he’ll be added to the sex offender registry. Taggart was originally charged on three counts, including: second degree sexual abuse, a class B felony; indecent exposure, an aggravated misdemeanor; and dissemination of obscene material to a minor, an aggravated misdemeanor.

The charges stem from a complaint made on May 31st of a sexual assault that involved a minor in Perry. After an investigation, the Perry Police Department found probable cause to charge Taggart with assaulting a female victim under the age of 12. He turned himself in to the police on July 8th.
