Greene County girls’ basketball head coach Dean Lyons was asked about the 2017-18 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girls’ basketball race. Nevada has been at the top in recent seasons, which included the Cubs winning a State title three years ago, and finishing second two seasons back. “I think Nevada will still be the team to beat. They lost a lot, but they return a lot. Then, I think you’re going to see a logjam from two to three or four. In the preseason coaches are always saying things look good, but I really think you’ll see us making a move. We could be in the middle. We have the potential if things go our way early.”

The Rams open the 2017-18 season with back-to-back non-conference games starting on Monday, Nov. 27 in Ogden. The Perry Jayettes visit the middle school gym in Jefferson on Tuesday, Nov. 28 for the Rams’ home opener. The first conference action is a girl/boy doubleheader in Jefferson on Friday, Dec. 1.

Greene County went 4-18 overall last season and had a 3-13 HOIAC mark.
