Boys’ high school Winter sports practices officially began on Monday for Greene County High School students. The girls’ basketball team has already had a week of practice and they held Media Day on Monday. Dean Lyons returns as head coach and Jeff Lamoureux is the assistant. Both are in season three in those positions.

The Rams won four games last season and have hopes of getting into the win column more often. Senior Laurin Lyons led the team in points per game (8.3) and rebounds per game (5.1) a season ago. The daughter of the head coach has plenty of company as more than 30 girls in grades nine through 12 are out of the sport.

The Greene County girls and boys play a doubleheader at Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll this Saturday (Nov. 18) as part of Iowa Hall of Pride Scrimmages around the state. Those games won’t count on the team record. The first official game for the Rams is JV/Varsity girls’ action in Ogden on Monday, Nov. 27.
