Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation recently gave funds to two local organizations to make the holiday season brighter.

GGCGC gave $5,000 to the Jefferson VFW Post 9599 and American Legion Post 11, and $5,000 to Youth and Shelter Services. GGCGC Board member Peg Raney says they sometimes will give money to unsuspecting organizations that need it during certain times of the year.

“It was just kind of at the discretion of the board. We talked about different places just before Christmas time that we would just like to do this exact thing, just a surprise visit to put some funds in that they weren’t really expecting.”

The non-profit gaming license holder for Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson gave $10,000 earlier this year to New Opportunities at assist families and individuals that are in need. Youth and Shelter Services helps families and individuals with their Families Developing and Self Sufficiency and Integrated Services programs. Sadie Bohr with Youth and Shelter Services talks about her favorite part of YSS.

“I have a lot of families that are young kids and then teenagers as well. So I really like working with all those populations. And then just like the appreciativeness from the families. If I bring them a resource or if I bring them a donation, they really appreciate it, or if they accomplish a goal that’s always something that’s really great for them to help them become self-sufficient.”

Both check presentations were made at the Jefferson VFW Hall this past Friday.
