unnamedA Greenfield man died Tuesday in a farm-related accident.

According to the Adair County Sheriff’s office, a 911 call was reported at 8:21am of an overturned corn wagon in the 2400 block of 270th Street, or 4.5 miles southeast of Greenfield. When officials arrived on scene, 57-year-old Edward Charles Carl was found pinned underneath. When authorities removed Carl from under the wagon, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the assistant Adair County Medical Examiner.

The accident report states that probable cause was from when Carl and two other individuals were off-loading a wagon of corn onto a grain cart via a grain vacuum. As the process was being done on a hillside, the combination of the weight transfer of the grain along with the unstable ground caused the wagon to roll onto its side and came to a rest on its top. The victim’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner where an autopsy will be done.

Adair County Ambulance, Greenfield Fire Department and Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.
