In their opening season last year, the Lady Chargers reached the 50 point mark just once. They matched that total in the season opener this year, falling at Audubon last night 50-52.

The recently combined unit scored the second most points in program history, even without last year’s leading scorer, Madison Berger, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury. Senior Morgan Meacham got her final season off to a good start with a double-double of 12 points and 18 rebounds. Junior Sierra O’Brien led the Lady Chargers with 15 points, including the team’s lone three-pointer. Sophomore Olivia Laabs and Junior Savana Fuller also swiped six steals.

The Lady Wheelers led after the first quarter 13-8 and extended the lead to eleven at the break. The Lady Chargers bolted Audubon in the third quarter to put the score at 38-39, but it wasn’t quite enough. Dose’s starters for the opener were Laabs, junior Lauryn Embleton, O’Brien, senior Mady Smith, and Meacham. The Lady Chargers open the home schedule next Tuesday against the Madrid Tigers, which you can hear live on KKRF2 and the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
