acgcACGC Head Football Coach Mark McDermott has officially resigned. The Guthrie Center School Board accepted the resignation at Tuesday night’s school board meeting.

In his resignation letter, McDermott thanked the District for the opportunity and wishes the team good luck in the future. Superintendent Steve Smith tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this was a voluntary resignation. McDermott will remain on the track and field coaching staff and as a math and social studies teacher at AC/GC Junior High School.

McDermott wrapped up his fourth year as a head coach in Guthrie Center. The first two years he led the 8-man Guthrie Center Tigers to a 10-9 record and a playoff loss against eventual state champion Newell-Fonda in 2014. The final two years he led the newly formed Class 1A Chargers to a 1-17 record, with the lone win coming this year at Des Moines Christian. No replacement has officially been named at this time and the administration is still working on a timetable for hiring the Chargers’ next coach.
