Greene County ended the home portion of the 2017 high school volleyball season with a long awaited victory.  The Rams were Heart of Iowa Activities Conference winners Tuesday night in the middle school gym in Jefferson over PCM (Monroe). Scores were 25-15, 25-18, 20-25, 25-12. The victory ended a 19 match losing streak for the Rams and improved their record to 6-22 overall and 2-4 in the conference. The Mustangs fell to 9-16 overall and 1-5 in the HOIAC. Before Tuesday, the last Greene County victory was on Sept. 9.

The match with PCM was also the last action at home this season for the Rams. Head Coach Donna Carhill commented, “After seniors put four years for a sport, it’s nice to see them end their home season with a win. All of the seniors played well, contributing offensively and defensively. The team as a whole served very well (94% efficiency). I was particularly pleased with the fact that when they were behind in the third game, they continued to play hard and didn’t give up. They carried that attitude into the fourth game and established themselves from the first serve in game four.”

Seniors for the Rams are Megan Durbin, Chantel Flack, Samantha Hardaway, Kaitlin McColley, and Ashley Millard. Durbin led in kills with 19 and Hardaway had 11. Durbin was also 16 of 17 serving and she had 29 digs. Sophia Havens went 24 of 25 serving with two aces, while Flack was 20 of 20 serving with two aces, and Flack also had 20 digs. Aubrey Heupel was the assists leader with 35.

The Rams play in Jewell vs. South Hamilton tomorrow night to end the conference schedule.
