A drop in class size from 3A to 2A has guaranteed the Greene County cross-country teams one thing; a LOT shorter trip for the State Qualifying Meet. Assignments were released yesterday and Greene County goes to Lake City for a 2A coed meet at the Lake City Golf Course hosted by South Central Calhoun. The Rams were in 3A last year and were sent all the way to Spencer.

State Qualifying in all four classes takes place on Thursday, October 19. The top three girls and boys teams and the top 15 individual girls and boys qualify for the Oct. 28 Coed State Meet north of Ft. Dodge on the Lakeside Golf Course. There are 14 girls and 14 boys teams at the Lake City meet. Those teams include the host Titans and the Rams, along with Aplington-Parkersburg, Clarinda, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, East Sac County (Lake View), Okoboji (Milford), Pocahontas Area, Red Oak, Sheldon, Shenandoah, Southeast Valley (Gowrie), Southwest Valley (Corning), and Van Meter.

The A-P boys are ranked number 7 and the A-P girls are #15. The Okoboji boys are 14th and the Okoboji girls 9th. The Sheldon boys are ranked 9th and the Shenadoah girls are ranked 13th.

Greene County hopes to have its number one female runner, sophomore Bailey Cunningham, back for the Oct. 19 meet. She missed Monday’s Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet due to an ankle sprain, and the conference meet ended the regular season for Greene County.
