IMG_1271The outgoing West Central Valley School Board met in regular session Wednesday evening.

The Board discussed a new chicken coop for use by the district FFA chapter as well as minor renovations to the existing greenhouse. On behalf of the student council, the Senior Class President and Vice President requested renaming the gymnasium after longtime head coach and teacher, Jeff Pease. The district currently does not have a naming policy, and the renaming proposal includes signs and graphics. The Board approved the request, funding the proposal, and developing a naming policy going forward. The Board also discussed several options to update athletic logos, displays, and a new website. More information on that portion of the meeting can be found in today’s sports page.

Additionally the Board approved FFA’s request for the use of two district SUV’s for transportation to the National Convention in Indiana, plans to sell an unused tractor, and the current school year’s District Special Education Delivery Plan. Finally, Dr. David Arnold addressed the Board on the 2016-2017 Annual Progress Report. Among other metrics, the Report included proficiency rates on Iowa standardized testing. However, WCV Middle School Principal Anthony Lohse and the rest of the district place their concern on individual growth as opposed to testing metrics. “We look at each individual kid, we look at all the sub groups, (and) we break down the data pretty extensively.”

Following the regular session, the incoming Board convened. Harry Light was reelected as Board President ,Nyle Godwin was elected Board Vice-President, and meeting dates and times remain unchanged. Jill Caltrider was appointed Adair County Representative as well as the delegate to the Iowa Association of School Boards Convention. Christine Stiles was appointed Dallas County Representative and Nyle Godwin was appointed Guthrie County Representative.
