Despite a more than solid night from the ADM football team on Friday, another dominant rushing attack took down ADM as Ballard rolled over the Tigers in Huxley 43-7.
Even though the ADM offense poured in 215 yards of total offense with 171 through the air and 44 rushing yards, all that was dwarfed by the performance of the Ballard run game that put up 289 yards and 6 touchdowns on the ground. Ballard showed their depth at the running back position when All-State back Hunter Wright exited the game early due to injury only to have back up Skyler Noftsger tally 131 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.
The game action started early and often for Ballard who capitalized on an ADM turnover and a blocked pun to score three times the in the span of the first seven minutes of the game for a 20-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Like last week, ADM was slow to get their offense going with their first 1st down of the game coming with 8 minutes left in the first half. Once the Tigers got a taste of success they put together a solid drive in the second quarter that started at their own two yard line and ended with a 69 yard touchdown strike from Matthew West to Gavin O’Steen. That would mark the first score of 2017 for the Tigers but unfortunately all they would muster on the night.
Ballard would pad their lead with one score in the 2nd quarter along with three touchdowns and a safety in quarter three to bring the score to its final resting place of 43-7.
Oddly enough, ADM actually led in time of possession and passing categories but for the second straight week penalties hurt the Tigers, this time with 12 penalties costing ADM 125 yards. Despite the loss ADM nearly doubled their total passing yards and more than doubled their rushing yard totals from week one.
With the loss, the Tigers now falter to 0-2 on the young season while Ballard improves to 1-1 on the year. Next up will be the initiation into district 7 play next week as the Tigers head to Winterset to battle the Huskies.
