Perry Soccer Complex 1

Construction on the Perry Soccer Complex project has at long last regained some traction, after months of stagnation.

This past week, J&M Landscaping started renewed work on seeding the field, though until recently the City was unsure if they were coming in at all. City Administrator Sven Peterson explains, “If you remember, I think it was the first meeting in August, Spring Lake Construction came and told us that they were going to hire a third party and they would be there in about a week-and-a-half. Now we are a month-and-a-half later, and the company is supposed to be here actually this morning (Tuesday), so hopefully that can get going. They’re going to be redoing all the surfaces on the fields, and hopefully have that done by the end of the month.”

The City was ready to deal with the bonding agents directly to ensure the project would continue, but with J&M now on board that won’t be necessary. The timetable is still to get the seeding done before the end of September, but the contractor will likely have to put in long hours to ensure they finish on time. Above all, the City wants to make sure the job isn’t rushed, as they’d rather have a good product as opposed to a hasty one.

The soccer complex was supposed to be completed 11 months ago, and the City will be able to withhold funding to Spring Lake until the work is done. Peterson says at this point it’s unlikely there will be any play on the field in the spring. More likely, the complex will be ready by this time next year.
