Perry City Council 8-21

The Perry City Council met Monday evening in regular session.

During reports, City Administrator Sven Peterson let the Council know the sally port project has had the concrete poured, and the shell of the structure should be up soon. He also let them know he and others are working on creating “Welcome to Perry” packages for new residents, which includes contributions from around 20 area businesses. Mayor Jay Pattee also mentioned the local option sales tax measure was brought up at the Metro Alliance Council meeting last week, and the metro cities are likely to start a promotional campaign to pass it in that area.

During old business, the Council approved accepting a general obligation loan agreement bid with Raccoon Valley Bank for $308,075 towards new snow plows. The City will receive a three-year term at an interest rate of 2.5%, which was considerably lower than other bids. They also approved several other resolutions, including: the installation of a street light at the intersection of 18th and North streets; pay requests and a certificate of completion related to the 2016 H.M.A. overlay project; a request for a fireworks display from Perry High School for homecoming; and covering travel expenses for representatives in the Greater Dallas County Development Alliance at the annual Site Selectors Guild conference in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Additionally, the Council elected to hold off on accepting a bid for the sanitary sewer improvement project, in hopes they can rebid the project in January. They also tabled an appointment to the Perry Zoning Board of Adjustment, until the candidate for the position meets with the Council.
